How does the Feminist Manifesto address the concerns raised by Betty Friedan in the Feminist Mystique? Have we, as Americans, addressed the demands of the Feminist Manifesto? What would Betty Friedan think of America in 2016?
Almost all points directly or indirectly reference that "something" put into words by Friedan. Their 4th point specifically, "The institution of marriage presumes and establishes the lifelong servitude of women," puts into words Betty's belief that women desire something more beyond their family. All other points reference the place in which women are in society or their ability to affect their place in society, which fits nicely under that umbrella for "something more," because where else can that stem from than the very reasons listed in the Manifesto (unlisted because it isn't analysis, just a bulleted list that would be long)? I think we have attempted to address them, there have been strong pushes for equality, and there is a far wider plane for women to explore in society, *however* it is still not as broad in comparison with, say a guy, and there are still problems with women of minorities. I think she would acknowledge some progress, maybe upset it took so long to get here, and then still be a further advocate. Culture shock with how things have changed wouldn't affect what the beliefs are as much, I'm fairly sure.
