Comparing documents #13, #14, and #15

In what ways were the problems facing women in China similar to problems facing women in the United States and Egypt?  In what ways were their issues different?

  1. Each of the three bring a focus on the men of their country not wanting the women to take their place, in some way. For Egypt it was the jobs women previously had, men developed ways of doing faster, and to reincorporate women into the work force, and get educated, it would take their jobs and leave the children un-aided, and discourage current religious practices. For the US, it was the fear the children would be neglected by a mother that spent time getting educated and participating in politics, and birth rates decline further. For China, she says directly "Men feared that if women were educated they would become superior to men, so they did not allow us to be educated," when talking about how women got to their position in the first place, and the women "let men make all the decisions for us."
They differ in that each has different social aspects causing contentions. For Egypt, current customs, foreign marriage, and the current state of women being incapable (in her words). The US had Shaw responding to Roosevelt saying there was equality in their difference, that a woman's role was to be a mother and help the family. For China, the treatment and expectations of women (like foot binding, mourning periods, etc)
