Natalie Carney Nation 1: Venezuela 1. This story represents Venezuela as a chaotic place considering there were 70 people murdered the 1st week of the year. 2. Outside influence is not mentioned in this passage but by the way it is reported, it is hurting Venezuela. 3. It seems to be that the punishment is not harsh/scary enough to prevent murders from happening, because of the high crime rate. Nation 2: Zambia 1. It represents the nation in the government having a lot of power and the people having very little. 2. I see the report as somewhat helping, because our freedom of speech may influence their government to become more lenient because the report makes the situation come off as ridiculous. 3. It makes the government (president) look like a hypocrite considering he was elected to improve freedom of speech yet is arresting someone for speaking freely. Nation 3: North Korea 1. It represents the nation as a terrible place with no freedom. It basically doesn't get worse than labor camps and starving the people. 2. Rodman defends the nation and it's dictator but seems uninformed about the American Kenneth Bae, and being close enough to consider the dictator a friend is probably not helping the American on getting out of the country. 3. It helps us to understand how hard it is in freeing an American that is imprisoned in a foreign country and the sad lifestyle of its people.
Nation 1: Colombia 1. This story gives off the impression that Colombia is nothing but rebels, and that their survival depends on our interference. 2. Outside influence provides funding for operations and man power that they may not have. 3. America's bombs were used to assassinate an Ecuadorian leader and America funds billions of dollars to Colombia.
Nation 2: Cairo 1. It represents the Egyptians as ignorant hateful people that are easily disturbed by a simple puppet. 2. There's not much outside influence that can alter the matter other than having this Vodafone explain any miscommunication pertaining to the puppet. 3. The news article shows a divided and unstable Egypt that is on the brink of violence.
Nation 3: Beijing 1. It represents Japan and China as childish nations. 2. I don't see outside influence helping the matter; this is an ongoing conflict that has to be sorted out between the nations. 3. Japan and China, though neighboring nations, still hold harsh feelings towards each other and are unwilling to admit fault.
Venezuela: The story misrepresents the nation because it talks about a murder and murder rates, but there are also good people living there The nation is hurt by the stats because it talked about the murder rate When the president said to act with an "iron fist" it seems that their gov. Is not very strong
Brazil: It represents Brazil as a strong country trying to help their citizens by providing doctors The information helps the nation because all of the stats. Of the doctors they are importing shows they care about the people living in Brazil It shows that Brazil relies heavily on Cuba and that Cuba is mistreating them.
Beijing: Beijing is represented badly because they are trying to call out japan and tell them how to run their country The outside evidence hurts Beijing because the quote from the Japanese at the end makes it sound like china is trying to take over The government seems very forceful by trying to claim other nations islands
Brooke Rosser Nation #1 Venezuela 1. It represents the nation as an unsafe place to live. 2. I do not see any outside influence at all in this story. 3. It helps us understand that they are trying to put a stop to these murders and they are trying not to make their country be only about the murders.
Nation #2 Venezuela 1. This story represents Columbia as a country in need of our nations assistance. 2. The outside force helping Columbia is the U.S.. We are helping Columbia by giving them our assistance in killing the rebel leaders in Columbia. 3. Helps us to understand that their government is different from our own and they are grateful for our help.
Nation #3 Cairo 1. It misrepresents the nation because it makes it seem like some people of the country is out to get other people in that same country, but this is just a group of people not all Egyptians are out to get other Egyptians. 2. The only influence I see is the Vodafone commercial people said that the commercials were not coded. 3. The government is more concerned about a puppet commercial than the deaths of people at Rabaa. It seems childish and not the way a country's government should act on a situation like this.
Nation 1 1. I think it misrepresents Cairo, and is very embarrassing. If proven false, that the puppet was not sending codes the nation will always be remembered for accusing a puppet of crimes. 2.I think outside influence would hurt, all other nations would do is make fun of them for accusing a puppet of crimes. 3.It shows that they are watching everything, some things more closely than others, that they should be focusing on. Nation 2 1. It represents it well by saying they want to do whatever it takes and do whatever action it takes to find these murderers. 2.I see it helping by causing awareness of what has happened, and all other countries can do is help in any way they think is possible. 3.They know what is happening, and are trying to put an end to it. They already know how the crimes are happening nut need more evidence to find out by who. Nation 3 1.I think it misrepresents it. It shows a man using his freedom of speech and put in jail for calling the president a potato. 2. I see it only hurting, nations dont really have a say on what should happen, it will only cause media to laugh. 3. It says the current president really wanted to work on freedom of speech, then he throws someone in jail for calling him a potato. So basically he contradicts himself which a president should never do.
LIBYA 1. it misrepresents it by saying anybody who they think works for Al Quaida is guilty for crimes he may not of committed. 2. it hurts it by people saying Osama Bin Ladin's associate was released so they all are all in danger. 3. the government doesn't know if Al Quaida's leaderships the cause of the deadly attack in 2012.
TURKEY 1. it misrepresents it by saying they use all children in Afghanastan are suicide bombers. 2. it hurts it by making people think everyone there is messed up by using children as suicide bombers. 3. the government has very little control over the talaban.
VENEZUELA 1. it makes it seem dangerous and that they are a bunch of psycho killers. 2. it hurts it because it is showing only the bad things and that now the murder rate is high. 3. the government is trying to be persistent on the murder cases.
Venezuela: 1. The story misrepresents Venezuela because it makes it seem like Venezuela is full of nothing but violence and murder. 2. We see that Nicholas Maduro (The President) says that he is going to do whatever it takes to find these killers and bring them to justice. 3. From the artice, we see that the government wants to help find the criminals, but the crime rate is so high that they are hard to find.
Brazil. 1. This story makes Brazil out to be an extremely poor nation that has a struggling healthcare system. 2. Cuban doctors are coming over as an outside influence to treat the poor people who can't afford the healthcare in Brazil. 3.From this article, we see that the Brazilian government is doing their best to help their poor people off the streets and get the healthcare that they need.
Afghanistan. 1. Afghanistan is represented as an extremely violent nation. Using a child as a suicide bomber is so incredibly extreme. The Taliban is determined to kill people, no matter what they are sacrificing or whose life they are taking. 2. We see outside influence as the police of Afghanistan stepping in to remove the bomb from the 10 year old girl's chest, and then condemning the Taliban for not following their beliefs. 3. From this article, we see that the police knows about the Taliban, but the Taliban is such a powerful group that they can't control their actions and suicide bombings. They can only condemn them and basically give them a slap on the wrist.
