3rd Period Discussion

Four questions from chapter 11 sections 1 and 2.

  1. 1. Why is bankruptcy a function of the Federal Government?
    2.Most believe that Health, Social Security, and Public Welfare are some of the most important things in todays society. Throughout the 1800's and 1900's not one of those exists and everyone seemed to get along fine, how do you feel about our citizens being forced to pay taxes towards these things that were unnecessary in the past and now causing our debt to increase tremendously?
    3. How does someone actually get a registered copyright?
    4.What determines whether you are illegally using someone else's work that has been copyrighted?

  2. 1. Although it is not currently constitutional, should there be an amendment that places a tax on exports to enemy countries during a time of war as a sort of enforced boycott?
    2. What’s the difference between expressed powers and implied powers in Congress?
    3. Is there a special reason that patents last for specifically 20 years unless extended?
    4. Concerning Weights and Measures, when the U.S. legalized the more popular metric system, why did they not just switch to it completely?

    1. Would the nation be more prosperous if the implied powers were not handled by the government, but by a different source?
    2. Would there be an alternative method to the Commerce Power?
    Section 11-2:
    1. If going through congress was the only way to go to war, how would that change the nations view on war?
    2. Should territories have more say in how or government is run? (more similar to regular states)

  4. 1. Without the "Borrowing Power," how else could our nation raise money besides raising taxes?
    2. What if Congress did not have a limit on the power to tax? How might the "Bankruptcy Power" change?
    3. Why are there more foreign powers than public policy powers?
    4. What type of factors would change the process of naturalization?
